Planning your garden for the New year

Vegetable Boxes

A vegetable box can make all the difference to a garden. It tidies everything in nicely and draws the eye as a focal point in your garden. Traditional vegetable boxes can be made from ‘log effect board’ as well as round wooden poles split in half. They are ideal for growing vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower and carrots as well as salads such as lettuce and onions.

We would highly recommend larch timber boxes to plant vegetable or salads as larch timber is extremely durable especially in harsh weather. If you’re looking to plant herbs but have back problems or find it difficult to stoop or bend to ground level, then perhaps a raised herb trough is for you? A triangle shaped box, set on legs and made from shiplap, it can be placed on a patio or decking area, making it ideally placed near your back kitchen door when you need herbs in a hurry when cooking.

Raised Beds

One of the best ways to spruce up your garden is to add in raised beds. The great thing about them is that they can be custom made to suit your garden. You can buy lengths of timber yourself and get them cut to your measurements to make yourself in your garden, or you can purchase ready-made items. Fill them with wood bark, plants, shrubs or flowers, anything is possible. They look best around the edge of a garden to give it definition and shape.

Garden Accessories

A tiered box of different levels is a great way to showcase shrubs or trailing Summer plants. The varied levels make it a key feature for your garden and it can be placed anywhere you like. If you have a BBQ area, decking, outside seating or anywhere people gather it will make a nice talking point.

Don’t forget about window boxes. The ideal place to showcase Summer flowers, they can really pep up your garden and because they are so close, you will always see them from your kitchen window reminding you to maintain them. You could always sand down and paint your window boxes to keep in with your house colour scheme or garden colours if you are feeling extra creative.

Looking for something a little bit different? Need a ‘wow’ feature to set your garden apart? Why not invest in a custom made pergola, children’s playhouse, garden sleepers or picnic bench.

Fencing, Decking and Gates

A border can make a big difference. Instead of shrubs or trees why not consider timber fencing? From top timber panels to curved timber fence panels, featheredge timber panels to roundtop timber panels, there are lots of solutions. To add the ‘wow’ factor a paddock timber gate made from imported Swedish redwood would make a beautiful entrance to your garden. Have some decking but it needs an update? Add a deck handrail and place pots of flowers all around for a stand out piece. If you really want to go all in, you can even get a wooden balcony deck added to top posts adjoined to the back wall of your house. With wood, there are endless possibilities to spruce up your garden this New Year.
